"In carrying out his commission, Donald Patriquin demonstrated the highest level of professionalism. Not only did he produce on time the various pieces comprising ‘Earthpeace Two’, but he did it through a process of consultation with the organizers with respect to the technical and esthetic problems about which we needed to be aware. Mr. Patriquin was always a pleasure to work with, was always consultative and - most importantly - always produced work of the highest quality...(His) ‘Earthpeace Two’ was a highlight...and made all of us feel elated and more committed to our work in disarmament."
Paul Cappon, MD., Ph.D., President, 8th World Congress, International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War

choral music for choir, soloists and instruments was written in commemoration of the sinking of the Titanic in which over 1500 lives were lost. The work is as much a homage to the ship itself as to its passengers and crew. It is also a warning for our time: “Ice-fields loom large in our dark night…” See it on YouTube!

Vive la Canadienne (Long live the Canadian girl) was the Canadian National Song in the nineteenth century until it was supplanted by Canada. Like many Canadian and Québecois folksongs, its origin was likely European. In fact, the melody appeared as The Canadian/A French Air in Literary Garland, a mid-nineteenth century Montreal music magazine.
Make Me a Channel of Thy Peace
was written just as Barak Obama was elected President of the United States. This multi-layered work, with its richness of origins and the eloquent message of peace, seemed somehow to meld with the spirit of hope that President Obama would bring not just to his country, but to the world, and so is dedicated to this man of great promise.
Take a bungled bank raid, a destitute solicitor, a drunken judge, a bizarre escape, patent medicines, and a winsome barmaid and what do you have? CHICKASAW The Elixir of Love, is an entertaining new musical comedy.

(I hear the mill-wheel) Without a doubt, J’entends le moulin has become a favorite concert and competition piece in the repertoire of hundreds of choirs in North America and beyond. The piece works best sung as spiritedly and quickly as possible, for that’s how French Canadians like it! See it on YouTube!
If you like J’entends le Moulin, you will love Ah! Si mon Moine! Which was recently broadcast on NPR’s From the Top. It is another spirited French Canadian tune that is loved by audiences and choirs alike. Also, a few more French Canadian arrangements you might also like. See it on See it on YouTube!
As a young pre-teen, I ‘invented’ on the piano (I had not yet learned to ‘compose’) a series of harmonies that I liked, and played them over and over for days if not weeks. Later, I composed a melody to these harmonies, and so created the Child’s Carol. When my daughter studied flute, I wrote an overlay for the carol, and started to adapt it for the many requests I had.
Ach! Synku Synku (World Music Suite)
This is a tender and sweet Czechoslovakian love song, a measured contrast to the otherwise energetic offerings of World Music Suite. See it on YouTube!

Hevenu Shalom Aleichem (Canadian Mosaic aka Wold Music Suite Two)
This is my daughter Lara’s favorite song. As she puts it: “Hevenu Shalom Aleichem is to Jewish people what J’entends le moulin is to French Canadians.” It is part of Canadian Mosaic, a set that reflects the spirit of our multicultural existence and a celebration of diversity.
This is my daughter Karin’s favorite music. A talented flautist, she accompanied her high school choir in this work. She says it captures the tenderness of her own beautiful children.
